The evidence is irrefutable: Humour can help improve communication, build relationships, enhance problem solving, increase productivity, and strengthen leadership. Because our humanitarian work requires creative learning and dialogue, the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre has been exploring humour as an unconventional approach to engage people and organizations in difficult conversations about what can go wrong and what to do about it. Combining the fascinating science of how humour works with serious-yet-fun activities and insights co-developed with cartoon artists, in this intensely interactive session we will experience safe, innovative communication approaches that make people smile, reflect, and wonder – in ways that support risk management and development work.
The main session will take 60 minutes. An additional, optional 30 minutes will be available for small-group discussion and brainstorming about applying the concepts from the main session to concrete next steps.
For: colleagues working on risk management, health, disasters, mapping, participatory processes, community-level work, communication
